Term 2 Tech Fair Criteria A

CRITERIA A

My two ideas for a project:
1. A Surveillance Drone to help the Police

Purpose and Audience:
The purpose of this product is to make it easier for the police to catch their targets easily. The main audience is for the police at situations where they cannot find their target during a chase or maybe a shootout.

Materials Needed:
A quad copter kit
A battery
Multicopter motor
Wings
Quad copter prop set
Flight controller mini board
Flight controller
A camera
3 multimotors

SWOT Analysis
Strengths
Easy to use
Reliable
Durable
Saves lives
Weaknesses
Takes time to charge
Very expensive to mass produce
May malfunction
Requires a good user    

Opportunities
Robotics skills
Could add radio control
Assembling components of a mechanical structure
Could be made with cheaper parts
Threats
Could Fall on someone
Could cause mayham at a shootout
Could cause destruction to property

Advantages:
Creating a surveillance drone has its own perks. It is very helpful for a mass audience. It is not very heavy so it can be easily carried around. It has powerful motors so it can fly various heights. As it is small it can do various maneuvers. It will be convenient for the police as when they are trying to catch someone they can just use this drone as it is very quite and will be able to see far distances due to its HD camera. And as it being a drone it is prone to malfunctions.

Disadvantages:
I think that this project has very less disadvantages as it is made for a good. The only disadvantages are that it will not be easy to make one. They will also be some problems due to the range of the controller to the drone. The last problem will be that it will require either a professional or a pilot to control the drone during important situation.
















2. Rover 5 (Android controlled RC Vehicle with real-time Video via Bluetooth & Wi-Fi)

Purpose and Audience:
The purpose of the application is to help Parents to keep an eye on their kids without moving around and it can also help the police for surveillance. The audience targeted would be the parents or the police or schools to keep surveillance around the place.

Materials Needed:
Dagu Rover 5 platform
Electronic control boards
Remote control boards
A smart phone or tablet device
A power system

SWOT Analysis
Strengths
It allows android users to have a piece of mind on what is happening around
It is very easy to make
It is cheap
It is durable

Weaknesses
We have a lack of knowledge on how to make it
There maybe problems due to the range
Can be easily spotted

Opportunities
Application development skill
Could make it camouflage
Could make it look more visually deceiving.
Threats
Could be an inconvience for some people
Could start threats around places
Can be used for other uses which are not targeted for.


Advantages:
The advantages for this project are many. This generally helps everyone around the world. The camera on this can be used to see what is going on around the place. It is a commercial product and can be sold around the world. The main purpose for this is that it can help parents look after their babies/kids when they r busy and for schools where they can see whether all the kids are behaving or even for the police to go into situations where a normal human being cannot enter. It can be controlled through your phone or a remote control.

Disadvantages:

It is easy to make but very complicated for ali and I because we have no experience in robotics. It is easily spotted during operations because it is on the ground where anyone can see during the morning. The controller is a phone so if there is no charging then the drone will be of no use for the owner. The rover can also malfunction due to various users at once as phones control it.




















Secondary Research:

   Ali and I will be searching up YouTube for projects and steps to make drones.
   We will be using various websites to do research and development for the product.
   We will be looking at self-made robots as they will have more instructions and also easy to make.
   We will have to research various websites for getting the parts and how to get them.

Design Brief:
After doing thorough research on our ideas Ali and I have come to a conclusion that we will make a drone as it is easier to make and also it will teach us how to do robotics and improve our skills on software development. This will be a major challenge for both of us as we are only 15 with no experience of how to develop a software for the drone. This product will feature:
Surveillance of the place targeted at.
Can drop  items from various heights.
Can collect voice and video with HD quality.
Can help catch thieves/terrorists.
